Ever have one of those lifes?

So, here is my new blog. It will be as self-indugent as my others, but this one is going to deal with my disease? Dilemma? Dysfunction?
Whatever you want to call it, it's a part of my identity. Trichotillomania. Defined as the compulsion to pluck ones body hair, could be from the head, the face or other places... Mine is centered on my eyelashes and eyebrows. I have pencil thin eyebrows. Lucky for me, I like the goth style of dress, so I can get away without eyebrows. My eyelashes, or lack thereof, gets covered daily with thick, black eyeliner.
This all started when I hit puberty, about 11 or 12 years old. I remember standing in front of the full-length mirror in my bedroom trying to get just one more lash, then maybe I would feel better. But I plucked one too many, and they were gone. When the new ones grew, they were thick and itchy. I used my thumb and forefinger to pull the lashes out, now I have tweezers. The tweezers are good & bad, they help pull the lashes out, but ingrown hairs get inflamed. I have multiple red bumps under my eyebrows now.
The first time I described having an eyelash to pluck to my husband (boyfriend at the time), I told him it's like having a itch you can't scratch. He likened it to his Tourrette's syndrome & having to supress a tic.
So, here I go again blogosphere, trying some word therapy on in a blog.
I hope that my confessions might reach someone with this same sucky disorder.
Until next time,
Anna
